Everything is to play for in the Friday Youth Division as the season enters its final month.
AFC Warner currently sit at the top of the table with 44 points and just three games to play having beaten Aintree Villa 2-1 last Friday. Aintree Villa have 5 games to play and are on 36 points and sit in fourth place. Sandwiched between AFC Warner and Aintree Villa are two other clubs with title aspirations, with Halewood Apollo on 43 points from 19 games and South Liverpool on 40 points from 18 games.
This Friday AFC Warner face South Liverpool in a crucial game where the result could have an impact on all four sides. Kick-off is 6.30pm at LCFA Sefton which will be followed at 8pm by Aintree Villa against MSB Woolton Gilmour.
Meanwhile at Jericho Lane, Halewood Apollo play MSB Woolton Rossi at 7.30pm, and in a repeat of last week’s Cup quarter final Fowler Academy will be looking to avenge the defeat to FC Kirkby at Kirkby Leisure Centre 7.15pm kick off.
The Saturday Youth Division is equally as competitive at the business end to the season. MSB Woolton Romario are currently top with 45 points and 6 games to play. AFC Knowsley are one point behind having played a game more. Clay Brow sit in third place on 40 points but with 7 games to play. Crucially MSB Woolton Romario have to travel to play AFC Knowsley in two weeks time. Fourth placed The Eight may not be in contention to win the title themselves but they may have a say due to fixtures upcoming against both MSB Woolton Romario and Clay Brow so again it’s all to play for.
Each Division has its own cup competition which is at the Quarter Final stage and the Saturday final (for the Dave ‘Doc’ Hughes Cup) will be held at Jericho Lane at 10am on Saturday 9th May as part of the first of the Liverpool Premier League finals days (followed by the Roy Wade Cup final and the Lord Wavertree Cup final). The Friday Division Cup final is to be held on Friday 22nd May again at Jericho Lane with a 7.30pm kick off alongside the George Mahon Cup final.
For season 2026/27 both the Friday and Saturday Youth Divisions are expanding to two divisions. The planning is well and truly under way and existing teams, teams progressing from the U’16 age groups and applications being received from teams wishing to enter are being mapped out to enable the appropriate structures are in place to enable competitive football for those players developing towards open age football.
