On Friday 17th April the Liverpool Premier League played host to a fantastic spectacle as top of the league and undefeated Grenadier took on Joey Orr’s in the George Mahon Cup Quarter Final. The high stakes of the game were felt from the first blow of the referee’s whistle with Grenadier winning 5-2.
Speaking of referees, this game was highlighted through the appointments of 3 of Liverpool’s youngest and brightest up and coming Match Officials. Ben Sharabi at 18 years old was tasked with being the man in the middle for this game with Reuben Cliff and Daniel Charles given the nod as Assistant Referees at just 17 years old.
The Liverpool Premier League is strongly committed to developing and progressing match officials from grassroots and through all levels, providing referees with opportunities to officiate in high level games to gain vital experience at an early age. We recently hosted a CPD event for our group of young referees and you can read about it here on our website
